Unlocking Potential: Introducing Our Student Leadership Lab

This year we implemented a Leadership Lab based for students with untapped leadership ability! This roll-out has been amazing! Students, families, and teachers are excited and we are just getting started!

It is with great enthusiasm that we announce the launch of our Student Leadership Lab at Polaris Elementary! This innovative program, inspired by the Leader in Me curriculum and infused with personalized goal-setting and reflection techniques, aims to cultivate the leadership potential within every student.

A Journey of Empowerment

This year marks the beginning of an exciting journey as we embark on a mission to empower our students with untapped leadership abilities. The Leadership Lab is designed to provide a structured framework for students to set meaningful goals, develop action plans, and reflect on their growth through leadership experiences.

Purpose and Goals

The primary objectives of our Student Leadership Lab are:

1. Building Capacity: To build the capacity of historically marginalized students by equipping them with essential skills such as goal-setting, planning, and reflection.

2. Personal Leadership Development: To foster the development of advocacy and personal leadership skills among students, empowering them to become agents of positive change.

3. Peer Leadership: To demonstrate peer leadership by inspiring and guiding others through the goal-setting and reflection process, creating a supportive and collaborative learning environment.

Key Components

The Student Leadership Lab is structured around the following key components:

1. Leader in Me Curriculum: Drawing inspiration from the Leader in Me program, students engage in activities and discussions centered around the Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, fostering leadership qualities such as responsibility, initiative, and teamwork.

2. Personalized Goal-Setting: Students are guided through the process of setting personalized goals aligned with their interests, passions, and aspirations. These goals serve as the foundation for their leadership journey.

3. Action Planning: Students develop action plans outlining the steps they will take to achieve their goals, identifying resources and support systems needed along the way.

4. Reflection and Growth: Regular reflection sessions allow students to track their progress, celebrate successes, and identify areas for growth. Through self-reflection and peer feedback, students gain insights into their leadership journey and develop a growth mindset.

5. Peer Leadership Opportunities: Students have the opportunity to demonstrate peer leadership by supporting and mentoring their peers in goal-setting and reflection, fostering a culture of collaboration and support.
